Other than a disastrous election in November, 2024 wasn't a bad year. I published a book, Clean Kill, got elected to the board of directors of the Mystery Writers of America, wrote reviews for the Gay & Lesbian Review, and started tinkering with an idea for a new novel. It's been a few months since I finished writing Sparrow's Nest and I'm starting to get itchy. I can't go too long without writing before I become bored.
I don't have a publication date for Sparrow's Nest yet. I'm anxious for you all to read it as it's a big departure from my usual crime fiction. The novel is a historical thriller set a decade before the start of the second world war. The setting is Berlin, the queerest city in the world. I'll tell you more about it once publication is set. The wheels turn slowly in the publishing world.
I have a lot to look forward to in 2025. Plunging into a new novel will take up the year. I absolutely love the excitement of starting a writing project. I'll be going to New York City in January for a MWA meeting and managed to fit a reading into the weekend. I'll be reading on Jan. 24 with a group of fine writers in lower Manhattan. In February I'm on a writer's retreat in Michigan for a week. I'll also find out if I'm accepted into a writers residency in Wyoming. I've been to this one before and it's a fantastic set-up. However, because I've been there before I have less of a chance of being accepted again. Linda retires on March 3rd so there's lots of adventures with her to look forward to. Provided our new president doesn't lead us into mayhem, the year looks like a great one.
I want to wish Happy New Years to all my readers. You have been what's kept me going year after year. I've been a published author for seventeen years now, which is hard to believe. I got a late start, but I don't plan on quitting any time soon. I hope 2025 brings you the time and space to spend with your passion projects.
